Purchasing a Pool Pump Motor
Swimming pool pump motors are one of the most common replacement items on a pool or spa. When your pump stops working it will usually be because the motor has failed. When this happens you usually don’t need to replace the entire pump, which can be very expensive. Simply replacing the motor and the pump shaft seal will usually solve the problem and get your pool up and running again.
AO Smith motors are usually the original motor that came with your pool pump so there should not be issues with compatibility. AO Smith pool pump motors have a 2 year manufacturers limited warranty - 2 years from the manufacture date or 1 year from the date of installation.
It’s important to remember that when replacing a pool pump motor that it’s highly recommended to replace the shaft seal at the same time. The motor shaft seal is a two-part piece made of rubber, and the other part made of metal and ceramic. This seal plays a vital role in keeping water from entering the pump motor. The seal is located between the pump impeller and the motor shaft (the seal will actually slide over the motor shaft). Shaft seals will very between pump manufactures and models so be sure to order the correct shaft seal that fits your pump.
