Why Purchase Hayward Sand Filters
Sand is one of the oldest methods of filtering water and for good reason; it’s simple. Hayward sand filters provide the ease and hassle free maintenance of using sand to filter your pool water. Hayward has been in the pool industry for over 80 years and manufactures some of the best sand filters on the market today.
Sand filters work by returning water from your pool being filtered through a tank filled with sand. The water is then returned to your pool through laterals that sit beneath the sand and rest at the bottom of the filter. Water enters the top of the filter and is forced through the layers of sand. The first couple inches of sand do the dirty work collecting dirt, oils, and debris from your pool water. As the water moves down through the layers of sand, the water becomes cleaner and clearer. It is then forced through laterals at the bottom of the filter and returns to you pool as crisp, clean water.
Cleaning a Hayward sand filter is a simple process called backwashing. When the filter pressure rises, it’s a good indication that your filter needs to be backwashed. Backwashing is done with the filter valve on top of or next to your filter. Simply move the lever to “backwash”, this makes your filter run in reverse, pumping out the dirty water. Run backwash mode for 1-2 minutes. Once complete, run the filter in rinse mode for another 1-2 minutes and cleaning is complete. That’s what we mean with low maintenance.
