Hayward pool filters come in three different media filtration types; sand, cartridge, and DE (diatomaceous earth). Hayward sand filters are most common with above ground pool filters and use sand media to filter out dirt, debris, and other particles not wanted in your pool. Hayward cartridge filters are the most common pool filter for both in-ground pools and above ground pools and use a filter cartridge (sometimes 4) to filter unwanted particles in your pool water. Hayward DE filters are the least common but also provide the highest filtration media by using diatomaceous earth which filters your pool water from unwanted debris and particles.
